THIS WEEK

B’reisheet Torah :
Genesis 1:1-6:8| Prophets : Isaiah 42:5-43:10| Gospel : John 1:1-17

Genesis 1:1-6:8 speaks about how the earth was formed and populated and the rise and fall of mankind.

Then the LORD God said, “Behold, the man has become like one of Us, knowing good and evil; and now, he might stretch out his hand, and take also from the tree of life, and eat, and live forever”—therefore the LORD God sent him out from the garden of Eden, to cultivate the ground from which he was taken. (Genesis 3:22-23)

Now, there are all kinds of questions that can arise from this beginning and many will simply never be answered until He returns and completes the puzzle. However, on the face of it, we can say that the Holy One himself had mercy upon His creation and removed them from the glorious garden he created for them so that they would not live forever. Now some of you may think living forever is a great idea – in fact some have already laid plans to be resurrected themselves when that medical mystery becomes availalbe. But as for me….living forever is not on my agenda. Once is quite enough, thank you.

Genesis … the beginning of a the greatest Love Story ever told. Imagine if you will that the most powerful, most omnipotent Creator of the Universe intricately and purposefuly designs a paradise for only you. It is the most beautiful, lush and exquisite garden that one could ever imagine – and it’s all for you. You have everything and anything your heart desires…well, except for the fruit of just that one exceptionally enticing tree. With the fruit of that tree, one would not only become wiser, they would be ‘like God’. Pretty tempting don’t you think? If you had to walk in this beautiful, lush garden every .. single .. day … wouldn’t you be tempted by this most glorious producing tree? I know it would cross my mind once or twice!

And then … it happens … somehow, someway, it happened, and the whys and wherefore’s was and will continue to be a mystery for a long time to come. There are many theories, many stories, many traditions – but since none of us were actually there in person, not one of us heard the serpent-speak or entertained the thoughts that went thru their minds nor even had an eye-witness or even 2nd hand report of the exact turn of events, we can only speculate what happened and why. But, being that as it is, we can still glean many things from what happened to those first two ancestors of ours and more importantly, what we do about it today. And that is what we’ll focus on …. what we do with all that … today.

So bottom line…God creates the earth and everything in it, God creates His children, Adam and Eve … and then they blow it by disobeying His one command – don’t eat the fruit!Every parent’s nightmare. You tell the kids not to do something, for their own good mind you, and then they sneak around and do it anyway. And then the whole family suffers the consequences….nothing new under the sun! And here we are today…in the exact same predicament. Whatchagoingtodoaboutit!?

Well, there are some options to consider. One can simply throw up their hands and mutter ‘who cares anyway, can’t do anything about it’; one can throw a tantrum and scream ‘it’s not fair – I’m going to give as good as I get’; or one can take a deep breath and CHOOSE to walk differently! If you choose the last option, then take a DEEP BREATH, clear away the foulness that lies beneath the surface and breathe in the fresh, new air of the One who created you – inhale the BREATH OF LIFE! That breath of life will lead you to His ways, His Ancient Footsteps and direct you towards the Path of Life! Cast off the shackles of guilt and shame and bitterness and begin to read…….

THE GREATEST LOVE STORY EVER TOLD!

I am my beloved

ps…..stay tuned…we’re not finished 🙂
