The month of Elul begins tonight!   Beginning August 20th, in the evening, we begin the count of Elul. Elul is the twelfth Hebrew month, and the sixth month in the Roman Calendar (September/October). In the Jewish tradition, the month of Elul is a time of repentance in preparation for the High Holy Days of Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur. … Elul has, throughout the time, a time to search one’s heart and draw close to God in preparation for the coming Day of Judgement, Rosh Hashanah, and Day of Atonement, Yom Kippur.

This is the time when soul-searching begins. The season before the High Holy Days are filled with an abundance of opportunities to explore the meaning and depth of what is before us, spiritually, emotionally and physically. The Maharal of Prague said, “All the month of Elul, before eating and sleeping, a person should look into his soul and search his deeds, that he may make confession.” And this is what the month of Elul is all about – searching our soul.

So, if you have never experienced a deep soul-searching experience touching the very essence of your being, then it’s time to start. Join with me as we walk thru the month of Elul and experience a ‘soul experience’ by signing up for our “Journey of Elul” daily insights. You’ll find it on the right sidebar.
