Peace in the Sabbath
These are truly precarious days, with wars and conflicts raging across the nations. Reports from organizations and others highlight how armed conflicts have multiplied, bringing widespread suffering, displacement, and uncertainty that touches so many lives. In such times, when human efforts for peace often falter and headlines fill with strife, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed or anxious about what lies ahead.
Yet Scripture calls us to place our trust firmly in God, who remains sovereign over every nation and battle. As scripture reminds us:
“Some trust in chariots and some in horses, but we trust in the name of the Lord our God.” Psalm 20:7
“The Lord will fight for you; you need only to be still,”
Exodus 14:14“Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you.” Isaiah 41:10
Rather than leaning on fragile human solutions, we anchor in the unchanging God who holds history in His hands.
As we enter into the rest of the Sabbath, let us guard our hearts from fear and bitterness.
Hebrews 4:9-10 speaks of a Sabbath-rest that remains for God’s people, where we cease from our own striving and find peace in Him. In this sacred time, let us pray earnestly for all people, as 1 Timothy 2:1 urges us to make supplications, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings for everyone including leaders and those in conflict zones, that we may live peaceful lives and that God’s will for salvation would prevail.
May our hearts stay fixed on Him,
finding true rest amid the storm.
