What Do You Call Yourself?
If you follow this blog, or know me from FB or from somewhere else….then you’ll know where I’m coming from.
What do you call yourself if you are ‘religious’ minded’? What label do you wear? It does seem it’s all about ‘labels’ don’t you think?
Just some thoughts to help you ‘rethink’ the label thing….
Let’s examine the word ‘gentile‘ … since most of us here can not claim to be ‘Jewish‘.
Gentile:
noun
- A person who is not Jewish.
- A pagan or heathen.
- A non-Mormon
So, we can see, a ‘gentile‘ is a … well, “HEATHEN“! And what is a heathen? It is someone that is NOT in Covenant with God.
The New Testament AND the Old tells us that we who follow the God of Israel, are grafted INTO Israel. So why would one want to continue using the label of ‘gentile’? Not quite sure.
Please dwell on some of these verses….allow the Holy Spirit, the Ruach haKodesh, to speak to your spirit. And while we can not ‘prove’ any tribal identity to the House of Israel – scripture assures us that we ARE a part of His people. One more question to ponder…if we ARE part of the Covenant of Israel and worship the God of Israel – what is the minimum that you must do? Let’s read:
-
- So the Torah is HOLY; that is, the commandment is HOLY, just and good. Romans 7:12
- “Tell the people of Isra’el, ‘You are to observe my Shabbats; for this is a SIGN between me and you through all your generations; so that you will know that I am Adonai, who SETS YOU APART for me. Exodus 31:13
- {REMEMBER } the sabbath day, to KEEP it holy. Exodus 20:8
- “‘Observe the Sabbath day, to KEEP it holy, as the LORD your God commanded you (“Zakhor,” remember) (“Shamor,” keep or guard). Deuteronomy 5:12
- So the Torah is HOLY; that is, the commandment is HOLY, just and good. Romans 7:12
What do all those verses have in common? Keeping the Sabbath.
So, now that we realize that at the very least we are to ‘observe and keep’ the Sabbath, how do we do that? It actually is very simple. We simply are told to not exchange currency (no buying or selling), fellowship with other like-minded believers and study His word. Actually, it’s a pretty simple process, don’t you think?
So what label do you choose? I prefer ‘bible-believer’ … or ‘follower of the Way’. Kinda says it all.
