Shabbat Shalom!

Shabbat Shalom!

Another week…another reflection of time.

What is time anyway? A collection of minutes that turned into hours that turned into days, weeks and months? Pretty close I’d say. But IN those moments, in those very seconds that determine the length of our lives, holds the very existence of our souls.

The existence of our souls?!

Yes. Think about it. Our ‘souls‘ are the part of you that consists of our mind, character, thoughts, and feelings. It is ‘who we are’.

The breath of life from the Creator of the Universe and in the original language of the scripture it is, in Hebrew, NEPHESH. If you look view the word in Greek, it is PSUCHE.  Both have been translated as “soul“,  but life or person could also be a good translation as well.

Think of all the verses in the Bible that mention ‘soul’ and consider how it truly does refer to your overall existence, and not to some mystical energy force that somehow floats around after your body no longer ‘lives’.

Consider, if you will, the following verses….ponder on them, contemplate them…..

1 Corinthians 15:45 ….And so it is written, “The first man Adam became a living being.

Genesis 2:7 …Then the Lord God formed a man from the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living being.

Jeremiah 13:17 …My soul will weep in secret for such pride; And my eyes will shed, and stream down tears,

Acts 2:41 ….So then, those who had received his word were baptized; and that day there were added about three thousand souls.

Ezekiel 18:4 ….Behold, all souls are Mine; the soul of the father as well as the soul of the son is Mine. The soul who sins will die.

James 5:20 …let him know that the one who has turned a sinner from the error of his way will save his soul from death and cover a multitude of sins.

Revelation 20:4 ….And I saw the souls of those who had been beheaded….

Psalm 89:48 What man can live and not see death?
Can he save his soul from the power of Sheol?

Interesting….wouldn’t you say?

Bottom line, I guess, is that we are ‘living souls’ … and because of that our perspective in how we approach issues, circumstances, and situations should immediately change. If we remember that we are MORE than just a body….but a SOUL in a body (temple)…than our entire lives and outlook should change!

Blessings, and
Shabbat shalom!
