Yesterday…..

Yesterday…..

Remember that old ‘Beatles’ song….

“Yesterday~ All My Troubles Seemed So Far Away”

Well, that old song from Paul McCarney back in 1965 kept circling around the phrase I heard from a wise Jaffa in in an old sci-fi movie the other night. That phrase was:

“Draw from your past, but don’t let your past draw from you”

As my dreams intertwined around each phrase, I was transported back to when I was that little 13 year old girl, only focused on a few things. Two of them were the pop-stars of the day and the one they called ‘The King’. Other focus-centered interests of that little 13 year old were raising bantams for a girl scout badge, catching tadpoles and feeding the baby birds in the rafters of the old garage in back of my house. Times definitely seem like they were so simple as I look back….

But now, I’m all grown up.

But being grown up doesn’t mean those memories are not alive and vivid in one’s sub-conscious. They certainly are!  As I travel back in time, the old Ed Sullivan show rises to the surface and as a family we used to watch it faithfully, every Sunday night.  That’s where the song “Yesterday” made it’s US debut – a song Paul wrote after a dream he had. That show was also the debut of Elvis Presley and I can even remember the outrage at his hips moving… OY VEY…. I digress.

Back to the two ‘yesterdays’ …. we all have a yesterday or two that comes up into our consciousness time after time … and we can either draw from it – or let it draw from us. Which would you prefer?

So as you read the lyrics of Paul’s dream-song, think on your ‘yesterdays‘ and draw from them and come away with understanding, wisdom and maturity. Those yesterdays that draw from you? Let them go….leave those yesterdays behind…let today be your focus!

“Yesterday”

Yesterday all my troubles seemed so far away.
Now it looks as though they’re here to stay.
Oh, I believe in yesterday.

Suddenly, I’m not half the man I used to be.
There’s a shadow hanging over me.
Oh, yesterday came suddenly.

Why she had to go?
I don’t know, she wouldn’t say.
I said something wrong.
Now I long for yesterday.

Yesterday love was such an easy game to play.
Now I need a place to hide away.
Oh, I believe in yesterday.

Why she had to go?
I don’t know, she wouldn’t say.
I said something wrong.
Now I long for yesterday.

Yesterday love was such an easy game to play.
Now I need a place to hide away.
Oh, I believe in yesterday.
