Rest and Reprieve
Each and every week I look forward to Friday evening … it is the beginning of my ‘rest‘. Yes, I know……I’m. not Jewish. But I do love to see how my Messiah Yeshua (Jesus) lived his life and follow in his footsteps.
It seems totally ridiculous now, but I was so naive in my understanding of ‘who‘ he was over 40 years ago. Actually, I never really thought of it one way or the other. I was raised Catholic and simply followed the leading of my family and the church doctrine. But … one day … I decided there had to be more! And that became my wake up call.
God – or YHWH in Hebrew (Yahuah), always answers his children, and I believe that’s what happened. After my decision to ‘find out more’ he sent one person after another – from radio interviews, to specific people (many from Israel) to others just wanting to find out more as well. That was back in the mid 80’s …. and through the years I have delighted in finding out more information and depth into the reason he died for me.
Learning about Sabbath was my very first attempt at understanding what he did and why he did it. In the beginning, I didn’t realize Sabbath or the Feast days ‘was for me’, I simply thought it was a beautiful part of God’s original plan (Genesis) and merely kept it in my ‘head‘. My family thought I had gone off the deep end, and probably if I were on their side – well, I would have taken a second glance as well. But as time went on, many of my family also began to appreciate the ancient roots of our faith – not just the Roman roots!
As the weeks turned into months and the months into years….I began celebrating those beautiful, prophetic Feast Days that my savior celebrated … and have not turned back, no matter the cost.
So as this day settles into evening, I will again light the Sabbath candles and give thanks that He gave me Light….a Light that will never be extinguished.
Shabbat Shalom!
